VEIN TREATMENTS
At Courthouse Clinics
Recently several new techniques for the treatment of veins have been reported in the medical literature. The main aim of these is to avoid surgical removal of varicose veins. The idea is to avoid the need for general anaesthetic, incisions in the legs and a hospital operating theatre.
One of the most promising of these is Ultrasound Guided Foam Sclerotherapy. We provide Sclerotherapy to treat Chest veins and Leg Veins, depending on the treatment area, we will determine which procedure to use in your initial consultation.

FOLLOW UP
FINAL FOLLOW UP
Prior to having the treatment, you will need to attend clinic for a consultation. You might require a doppler scan if you have Varicose Veins, with a more powerful ultrasound scan to follow if necessary.
The treatment itself is done under a local anaesthetic (no sedation required). The only injections made are those for the anaesthetic, and the cannula or butterfly (depending on the size and location of the vein) sites where the Fibrovein will be injected.
Leading up to your final check up, scar tissue will form in the treated veins, causing them to collapse. The collapsed vein will eventually be reabsorbed into the surrounding tissue, fading from visibility. Several sclerotherapy sessions may be needed to achieve optimal results.
In your final follow up, your doctor will determine how far the vein has been reabsorbed into the surrounding tissue, whether you would like additional veins treated, ensure that you happy with the results and to conclude the treatment.

An Iviz scan is used for diagnosis, defining the anatomy and for accurate placing of the Cannulae. It is also used to check the treatment has filled the entire length of the vein at the end of the treatment and at the follow up appointments.

Chest Sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive treatment that removes prominent veins with an injection of Sclerosant. The Sclerosant encourages the body to reabsorb the veins back into the body so they are no longer as visible. The procedure is virtually painless. The veins may look worse for the first three weeks, but they fade over the next three months and improvement continues over a year.
Foam Sclerotherapy is a for the treatment of Varicose Veins in the legs. This treatment is administered only by Dr Keith Rose for Courthouse Clinics. The treatment is excellent for treating large, visible, blue veins in the legs which are caused by a failed valve somewhere in the leg. This failed valve is located through the use of ultrasound at consultation and during treatment where required.

QUICK TREATMENT
Foam Sclerotherapy only requires an injection into the main affected surface vein. There is no need for incisions in the leg or admission to hospital or an operating theatre.
No time is needed off of work, except for the treatment sessions. The treatment may produce mild discomfort in the leg which can last for 2-4 weeks.
The treatment is performed with a small amount of local anaesthetic and foam injected into the vein. The whole treatment usually takes no more than 15 - 20 minutes.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Enlarged veins are not uncommon. They can occur after breast augmentation, as a result of ageing or can even be a genetic trait. The exactly cause for them is not known but they are usually harmless and can easily be removed with Sclerotherapy.
You should avoid anti-inflammatory drugs such as Aspirin and Ibuprofen for at least 10 days to reduce bruising.
After an initial doctor consultation to ensure suitability, your skin will be cleansed. Your lip filler of choice will be gently injected into the required area(s).
Most patients find it uncomfortable rather than painful. The veins are right on the skin surface. The treatment is quite quick and often several veins are connected which means they can all be treated with a single injection.
A small volume of Sclerosant is injected into the vein using a very small needle that is virtually painless. This may need to be repeated several times in order to fill the veins.
You will be able to drive home or back to work immediately after treatment and a compression garment such as a sports bra would need to be worn for 7 days. Painkillers are almost always unnecessary. You should avoid excessive exercise and hot baths for a week afterwards to allow the healing process to take place. You will be asked to return for a follow up appointment to assess the result where a second set of injections may be needed. The final results of treatment will gradually develop over the course of several weeks.* Scar tissue will form in the treated veins, causing them to collapse. The collapsed vein will eventually be reabsorbed into the surrounding tissue, fading from visibility.*
You can expect an improvement of at least 60% but 80% to 90% is usual. Occasionally the veins clear completely.*
The treatment is quite quick and all the veins can often be treated in a single 30 minute session. Uptake varies and a second session is sometimes needed a month later.
Treated veins often itch for a few hours afterwards. This confirms that the Sclerosant has worked. Bruising can be expected for a couple of weeks. Larger veins may leave a coffee coloured stain, which usually fades after a few months. Very rarely a small ulcer can develop at the injection site. Allergic reaction to the Sclerosant is extremely rare (about 1 in 100,000).
